Tiruvannamalai visit

In June 2011, my wife and I visited Tiruvannamalai, a famous pilgrimage center in Tamil Nadu, India. We walked around the famous hill barefoot. We started at 5.45 AM and could complete in about 3 h and 45 m. The distance was about 13.5 km.After the parikrama, we visited the famous temple. We also visited the dam at Sattanur (35 km away) and also Sri Ramana Maharshi and Sri Seshadri Swamigal ashrams.

North India tour

We are planning a tour of North India in October, 2011. The tour is conducted by Nirmala Travels, Bangalore. The places covered are Amritsar, Vaishnodevi, Dal Housie, Khajjiar, Dharmasala and Delhi.

New Year, 2011

Starting off the New Year with a 10-day tour of Andhra Pradesh, starting on 17th January.

After my USA visit

My wife and I spent nearly 3 months in USA with our son and daughter-in-law. We stayed in Jersey City. Visited New York city several times and seen most of the places worth-seeing. Also went to Niagara Falls, 1000 islands, Atlanta City, Princeton and New York Universities. Met with some relatives.... Bhaskar and Shobha, Arvind and Meghana, Dr. Gopal and Radhika and Sri. Viswanatha Sastry and family. Also met with a B.E classmate, Jayaram and his wife Shanthi. A very enjoyable visit. Returned to Bangalore on 18th August.

BESCOM

Everybody realizes that Karnataka has grave power problems and Bangalore is subject to regular power cuts. But BESCOM does nothing to save power. The street lights are on long after day light has set in... and are switched on in the evenings even when there is broad day light. Perhaps this happens due to shift change in Bescom staff but that is no excuse for this very objectionable practice. In spite of past representations to Bescom, nothing happens!

Khayaal aapka

Of late, we find ICICI bank advertisements on TV. This ad shows bank officials and customers interacting and the bank officers being very courteous and customer-friendly. Of course, this is just an ad. In reality, the service is nothing much to write home about based on my experience of opening an account with the M.G.Road branch in Bangalore, even though I am a senior citizen and expect to be better-looked after.
But then reality an ads do not go together.
